Chimayo Thunderbird Rug. Beautiful Colors, Tight Weave, Excellent Condition! Bright turquoise,gold,brown,rust,teal,blue,black, and other colored stripes. It is in great condition!
By the 1920’s, designs that began showing up in the weavings were the thunderbird, rain cloud, and the road runner motifs. This is sometimes called the Industrial Period with the introduction of the Railroad and the tourist trade.
This type of handwoven wool blanket is commonly used as a wall hanging, or draped over the back of a couch.
My uncle owned a trading post in northern AZ from the 1940’s until his death in the 1970’s. He and my aunt loved traveling to NM to purchase his Native American showroom wares. I inherited the contents of his stock and have slowly been selling certain pieces off.
