I’m offering for sale one lovely porcelain doll in Evzone characteristic national male costume worn in Peloponnese in the 19th c, with metal buttons and gold color trim. He is mounted on a porcelain base. This is the blue vest variation of this costume, and I have the red vest variation listed as well. I also have a doll in Amalia female costume listed under my account. Evzone and Amalia costumes are the most popular outfits for the Greek national day!
This doll is part of my fine 20+ year collection of unique collectible porcelain dolls in great vintage condition, there are more listings of Evelt dolls under my account. Most of them have original tags.
I have over 50 dolls made by Evelt, and will be listing them for sale regularly.
The dolls were produced by Evelt in Greece. This maker used to study exhibits in the Benaki museum in Athens of traditional Greek outfits from various regions of Greece in the 70’s up to the beginning of 2000, but now this maker ceased to exist. Each doll’s costume is a copy of an antique original.
Dolls are made from porcelain and dressed in elaborate Greek traditional attire. They are mounted on  stands.
Greece is famous for its rainbow of exquisitely decorated folk costumes.  From region to region, the costume details vary so that one can identify the area of Greece in which a person lives just by their dress.
If you take a closer look you’ll be surprised how detailed the outfit is.
All the metal accessories like belts and jewelry are made to scale, the dresses are multilayered and designed to reflect the real garments and way to wear them, with beautiful embroidery or trim when applicable. The shoes are painted. Their lovely faces were meticulously handpainted with sweet expression of ladies’ faces and noble dignified mens’ faces. The arms are movable, and there’s a high detail to their hands and face features which says a lot about the quality of the molds used.
